Uses of Plutonium
Industrial applications
For industrial use, Plutonium is used in nuclear reactors to power cities and homes with electricity, and is used by the military for nuclear warheads. For nuclear weapons, Plutonium-239 is used because it has a higher energy output than all it's other isotopes. As for use in a nuclear reactor, Plutonium dioxide (PuO2) is used because it has a longer usage period before becoming depleted than it's pure form. Plutonium is not a natural element found on Earth, it is actually a by-product of Uranium-238 used in the fission process of nuclear reactors.
